Millionaire fraudster (70)
“Most-Wanted Grandpa” arrested in front of villa in Spain
An Austrian is said to have swindled nine million euros in the course of several investment frauds - now the so-called "Most-Wanted Grandpa" (70) has been caught in a villa district of Alicante in Spain. A tip from home was the decisive factor in his arrest.
Not a glorious story by any means - but according to Europol, the Austrian who has now been caught is one of the oldest most wanted criminals in Europe. Even Tibor Foco, who has been on the red-white-red wanted list for the longest time, is younger at 68 - if he is still alive at all.
According to the judiciary, the 70-year-old suspect is responsible for several crimes - including several investment frauds with which he defrauded no less than nine million euros.
Investigators struck in the middle of the residential area
Which would probably also explain his lifestyle. The wanted man had treated himself and his wife to a luxury villa in the upmarket district of Alicante on the Costa Blanca.
Following tips from Austrian investigators, the Spanish officials lay in wait. When the couple finally got out of the cab in front of their stately home, the handcuffs clicked.
