Further renovation work around the Schmitt Tunnel

The Schmittentunnel in Zell am See is currently only accessible to traffic in one lane. As has already been announced, considerable damage to the tunnel ceiling at the Schüttdorf portal requires extensive renovation. However, this situation is being used to lay a new sewer and renew the asphalt surface at the south portal at the same time.

"As there is currently no traffic coming out of the tunnel in Schüttdorf, this urgently needed renovation will be made easier for us, it will be quicker and the traffic restrictions will be rather minor," says Stefan Harbacek from the provincial road administration. The work is expected to last from April 2 to May 4, 2024, meaning it will be completed in good time before the Schmitt Tunnel is completely closed.

Kurt Reiter, Police and Traffic Group of the Zell am See district authority, is also pleased with this solution, which makes optimum use of the restrictions at the Schmitt Tunnel, so to speak. "We all have the goal of keeping the impact on daily traffic as low as possible. The fact that April is now being used for this makes the best of the situation around the Schmitt Tunnel," says Reiter.
