Hiking in Styria
Enjoy the spring snow in Ausseerland
The snow conditions and temperatures are perfect for spring hikes. The Tauplitzalm offers the best conditions for this. Here is the hiking tip of the week!
On the Tauplitzalm, the last beautiful days of winter can be wonderfully combined with snowshoeing/cross-country skiing. The snow conditions are still very good for both sports. In the morning, we hike with snowshoes through the open alpine pastures, which are interspersed with small, sparse forest stands.

The tour is ideal for beginners and connoisseurs, as it can be shortened or extended as the mood takes you. After a relaxing lunch break, we get to know the Alm on cross-country skis (trail ticket from 12 noon, 9 euros) and make our rounds, with the view of the Traweng and the striking Grimming as a constant companion. Conclusion: a perfect way to end the winter in a fantastic setting!
We start at the Tauplitzalm parking lot (1621 m) and walk a few meters slightly uphill to the overview board. The Lärchwald cross-country ski trail is just to the right, which we follow for the time being. The snowshoe tour leads gently up and down to the chairlift, where we can see the Linzerhaus in the distance (large building on the hilltop behind the sparse forest), which we are now heading towards.
At the Linzerhaus, we keep slightly to the left and reach the prepared path, which leads to the Steirerseehütten (1552 m) and the lowest point of the hike. From here we can enjoy the view of the snow-covered Steirersee. The way back takes us to the Grazerhütte (1610 m), where Heinrich Harrer worked as a hut keeper. We return to the starting point via the small mountain church.
