Data leak at the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance
The German alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), which was founded in October, had to deal with a data leak. As a result, unauthorized persons have access to information on thousands of interested parties. Up to 35,000 people are affected, including donors with email addresses and amounts.
Subscribers to a newsletter are also among them. A party spokesperson confirmed corresponding media reports on Thursday. The data leak concerns contact persons of the association, which was founded in October. The data of donors to the party, which was formed in January, is not affected according to current knowledge.
Der Spiegel referred to a list of payments that were entered on a form on the BSW website by January 13. The list includes names, e-mail addresses and information on whether the donation was more or less than 500 euros. The exact amounts are usually indicated below this.
Data protection authority informed
No other personal data is recorded. In total, up to 35,000 people are affected, most of them (30,000) because of the newsletter. According to the spokesperson, the party has informed the responsible data protection authority and the public prosecutor's office about the incident. The service providers were also contacted and security measures were reviewed.
