Lufthansa expects 1000 flights to be canceled

Around 120,000 passengers will be affected by the Lufthansa strike, according to a spokesperson on Monday. The company estimates that a total of 1000 flights will be canceled in Munich and Frankfurt.

600 of these will be in Frankfurt, 400 in Munich. As reported, the cabin crew union UFO had called the flight attendants of Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline to strike last weekend (see video above). All departures from Frankfurt on Tuesday and all departures from Munich on Wednesday are to go on strike from 4 am to 11 pm. Previously, the 19,000 flight attendants voted in favor of the strike by more than 96 percent.

Salary increase of 15 percent demanded
UFO is primarily demanding 15 percent more pay for employees with a contract term of 18 months, an inflation adjustment bonus of 3,000 euros and higher bonuses. For Lufthansa, the strike is just one of several wage disputes. Last week, Verdi ground staff went on strike and largely paralyzed Lufthansa's passenger traffic. Negotiations with Verdi are due to resume next Wednesday.

On Tuesday, long-distance rail services in Germany will also be on strike. This is also not the first strike in recent times.
