“Würge-Vini”: RB Leipzig smells bonus for Real
Trouble at RB Leipzig! After the bitter exit in the Champions League round of 16, the German Bundesliga club senses a referee bonus for Real Madrid.
Leipzig also made life difficult for the big favorites in the second leg on Wednesday. Which caused frustration for Vinicus Junior. After a foul on Leipzig captain Willi Orban on the halfway line, the Brazilian clashed with his opponent - see the video here:
Vinicus ended the altercation with a hearty grip on the Hungarian's neck and pushed him to the ground. A clear assault, you might think - referee Daniele Massa saw the situation differently and left it at a yellow card for the Real attacker. "Leipzig out, but ... scandal about Würge-Vini", scolded the German newspaper "Bild". The game ended 1:1, with Real squeezing into the quarter-finals after a narrow first-leg win (1:0) in Leipzig.
"... then he flies off the pitch"
"He punches Willi in the face after giving him a bump. I'll be honest: if it was the other way around - one of our players goes for the neck of a Real Madrid player - he'd be sent off," said Leipzig's Benjamin Henrichs. Team-mate David Raum said: "The way the referee spoke to us and Real Madrid - there was a difference. I don't want to know what happens when Willi Orban grabs Vinícius by the neck like that."
