Man in hiding tracked down after EU arrest warrant

The handcuffs clicked in Leonding at half past five in the morning on Wednesday. A criminal wanted on an EU-wide arrest warrant was arrested following a tip-off not far from Linz. Because he had not registered his place of residence, the EU citizen felt safe from the long arm of the law.

A 32-year-old German citizen was rudely awakened on Wednesday. At around 5.30 a.m., law enforcement officers woke him up to arrest him. The German had gone into hiding at an unknown time because he was the subject of an EU arrest warrant.

For assault
According to the police, the 32-year-old had committed several assault offenses, the most recent apparently in Germany. Because the fugitive had not reported his accommodation in Leonding, he probably thought he was safe - at least until officers woke him up on Wednesday following a tip-off from the Federal Criminal Police Office. The German was taken to Linz prison.
