Good news for fans of the hit series "Baywatch": US broadcaster Fox is planning a new edition of the series about well-trained lifeguards in the famous red swimming outfits.

The production company Fremantle is involved in the reboot together with Fox Entertainment, as US industry publications reported on Monday.

New team of lifeguards
According to the report, the classic series is to be filmed with a new group of actors. Lara Olsen ("Spinning Out") is on board as showrunner. She will be assisted by three producers from the original series, according to reports.

Millions of viewers in front of the TV
The series "Baywatch" attracted millions of viewers worldwide in the 1990s. Over a total of eleven seasons, "the lifeguards of Malibu" sprinted through the Californian sand in more than 240 episodes between 1989 and 2001.

Women like Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra, who formed the team around chief rescuer David Hasselhoff in their skimpy outfits and with plenty of bare skin, were audience magnets.

Director Seth Gordon ('Kill the Boss') brought Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson and Kelly Rohrbach in front of the camera as lifeguards for a movie version in 2017.
