New US poll puts Trump ahead of Biden

A recent US poll puts former President Donald Trump ahead of incumbent Joe Biden. According to the survey, Trump has 48% of the vote and Biden 43%. Ten percent of his former voters say they are backing the opposing candidate this time.

83 percent want to vote for Biden again. Trump even receives the vote of 97% of people who already voted for him in 2020. The survey was conducted nationwide on behalf of the "New York Times" newspaper. It is striking that Biden has less support in the group of less educated, ordinary and non-white workers than four years ago. Compared to Trump, however, he still has a lead of around six percentage points.

Country developing in the wrong direction
Another result: only one in four people surveyed believe that the USA is currently developing in the right direction. More than twice as many said that Biden's policies had harmed them rather than helped them. Overall, 48 percent would vote for the former US president, 43 percent for the current one. Ten percent of former Biden voters are backing Trump this time.

Primary elections are scheduled for Tuesday in 15 US states, including the most populous California and Texas. Both Democrats and Republicans are holding their votes almost everywhere. The presidential election itself is scheduled for November 5.
