“Judiciary overloaded”: Good reason to put the brakes on hemp?
The law passed in the Bundestag clears the way for cannabis in Germany. However, partial legalization could still be delayed in the Bundesrat. Judges, among others, are arguing for this, fearing a judicial overload because tens of thousands of penalties would have to be waived through an amnesty regulation. Krone+ has taken a look at why this is (not) a good reason to put the brakes on hemp.
The controversial partial legalization of cannabis in Germany was passed in the Bundestag with 407 votes in favour, 226 against and four abstentions. Shortly before this, politicians such as Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP) and the head of the German Medical Association Klaus Reinhardt had expressed criticism of the draft law, while the Berlin branch of the police union even saw it as a "license to kill".
