Two police officers and a paramedic have been killed during an operation in the US state of Minnesota. A man who had barricaded himself in his house with his children opened fire on the alert officers on Sunday morning. The shooter is also dead. The seven children, aged between two and 15, were unharmed.

According to the police, an emergency call was received early on Sunday morning from the house in Burnsville, south of Minneapolis, where an armed man was apparently holding members of his family - including seven children.

"Heartbreaking act"
 Governor Tim Walz called the deaths of the police officers and the paramedic "heartbreaking". Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz paid tribute to the officers who were killed as "heroes".
