Major operation due to smouldering fire in Viennese restaurant

On Thursday afternoon, streetcar line 6 had to be diverted in both directions due to a major firefighting operation in the Quellenstraße - Neilreichgasse area in Vienna-Favoriten. The cause was a smouldering fire in the ventilation duct of a restaurant, reported the professional fire department. 

44 firefighters arrived with ten vehicles. Among other things, a telescopic mast platform and the fire department's inspection smoke sweepers were deployed.

Surrounding apartments also checked
The smouldering fire was probably caused by deposits in the restaurant's exhaust air duct. Smoke from the barbecue in the kitchen is discharged into the open air via the roof over several floors of the apartment building. Because such a smouldering fire produces high levels of carbon monoxide, the surrounding apartments were also checked.

Streetcar lines were diverted
Streetcar line 6 was diverted between Matzleinsdorfer Platz and Quellenplatz via lines 18 and O during the operation. Line 14A was available as an alternative.
