Prefer to play on the PC
French people are having less and less sex according to a study
The French are having less and less sex. Last year, almost one in four adults (24%) said they did not have sex at all. The respondents preferred to watch movies, play computer games or read a book.
At 28%, the proportion is particularly high in the 18 to 24 age group, as the representative survey by the Ifop Institute showed. In the 25 to 34 age group, however, 94% have had sex at least once in the past year. Around four in ten respondents (43%) stated that they had sex at least once a week. In 2009, according to a survey, this was still the case for the majority (58%).
Many dissatisfied with the situation
Among the reasons given by respondents for the decline in sexual activity were that they would prefer to watch movies, scroll through social networks, play computer games or read a book. At the same time, however, many are dissatisfied with the situation - 55 percent of men and 39 percent of women.
Another finding was that consensuality is becoming more prevalent. In 1981, three quarters of the women under 50 surveyed still had sex from time to time without feeling like it. In the current survey, it is still one in two.
What one generation does intensively, the next does less.
Studienleiter François Kraus
"Oversexualization is over"
Study director François Kraus commented on the result by saying that the hypersexualization of the 1990s is over. Today, people are moving towards a sexuality that is more qualitative than quantitative. "What one generation does intensively, the next does less."
