Rear-end collision on the A10
Motorhome demolished while bending down for a cigarette
He bent down for a cigarette in the cab and overlooked a line of vehicles that had formed on the A10 near Pfarrwerfen (Salzburg). As a result, a truck driver rear-ended a motorhome and ultimately caused a traffic jam lasting two and a half hours.
A Croatian man (50) was driving his articulated truck on the Tauernautobahn towards Villach on Friday evening and wanted to light a cigarette in the driver's cab.
He then bent down and overlooked the fact that the traffic in front of him had come to a standstill. At Pfarrwerfen, he hit a motorhome without braking, which was pushed onto another car.
Nobody was injured. However, the tractor unit of the articulated lorry and the camper van were no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. The section of the A10 was closed in both directions for two and a half hours because the demolished motorhome and the articulated lorry had to be cleared from the road.
