Murder suspect arrested in Vienna after 13 years

A man wanted in Sweden since 2012 for murder was arrested in Vienna-Landstraße on Friday afternoon. Swedish and Austrian officers worked together and were able to confront and arrest the 37-year-old in public.

The man was the subject of a European arrest warrant for murder and attempted murder on September 10, 2012 in Gothenburg. He was also wanted for attempted aggravated extortion between June 2024 and March 2025 and for aggravated handling of stolen goods in March 2025. The arrested man was taken to Josefstadt prison. Extradition to Sweden is in preparation.

ENFAST cooperation

The arrest in Vienna was made by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BK) and the Directorate Special Forces (DSE) in cooperation with the Homicide Investigation Unit in Gothenburg and took place as part of the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams (ENFAST).

The Federal Criminal Police Office praised the international cooperation within the ENFAST network (European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams). "This arrest shows once again that Austria is not a safe haven for internationally wanted criminals. The success is based on the excellent cross-border cooperation within the ENFAST network, the national authorities and the dedicated efforts of our target investigators," emphasized BK Director Andreas Holzer.

European Targeted Investigation Network
The Federal Criminal Police Office's Targeted Investigation Unit is a founding member of ENFAST, which was established in 2010. Its aim is to increase security within the EU through close international cooperation. As part of the network, important information can be exchanged and measures taken quickly in the event of cross-border searches.
