Every five years, the fools are on the loose in Elsbethen. 20 groups marched in the big parade with their floats. The atmosphere was exuberant.

The bass booms, the luxury yacht "MS Elbillionaire" rocks, chocolate lands in the crowd from the kindergarten float: at the big carnival parade in Elsbethen, which only takes place every five years, the jesters were in top form on Saturday.

"It was simply brilliant that so many spectators came," enthused Hermine Esterer, chairwoman of the Trachtenmusik, where all the organizational threads came together in the run-up to the event. 20 clubs, regulars' tables and other groups were registered and all came up with creative carnival ideas. Cross shots at FPÖ party leader Marlene Svazek and her firing orders were also allowed, according to the marksmen and fire department of St. Jakob am Thurn.

They created a "Marlene fan car" with great attention to detail. The regulars' table "Elsbethner Dorfkinder" rocked through Goldensteinstraße on a luxury yacht. The hosts from the music band could be admired as a "Super Mario" delegation. Witches from the Pföß bakery went around and the traditional costume club "D' Puachstoana" cut a fine figure as the Minions from the Disney blockbuster - with probably the youngest participant, the one-and-a-half-year-old Mini-Minion Anja.
