Lamparter second in Riiber’s victory in Otepää!

Johannes Lamparter finished second in Jarl Magnus Riiber's superior victory at the Nordic Combined World Cup in Otepää!

The Tyrolean finished 10.1 points behind the Norwegian after cross-country skiing and ski jumping, who will draw a line under his career after this season. Lukas Greiderer was the second best Austrian in sixth place. In the women's event, Annalena Slamik finished tenth in the top ten for the first time.

In the mass start, Lamparter was initially able to work his way forward in a "very hectic" race, as he said himself. He then took the lead on the ski jump with a jump of 96.5 meters, with only Riiber and Germany's Vinzenz Geiger still at the top. The Norwegian marked the maximum distance with 102.5 meters, while Geiger, who had recently been successful in the Seefeld triple, dropped back to third place behind Lamparter.

"Jarl was unbeatable again. You can only take your hat off to him, he's doing brilliantly at the moment. But I'm looking forward to the next few days. It was really good to open the weekend like this," said Lamparter. There are more competitions on the program in Estonia on Saturday and Sunday. Riiber extended his lead over Geiger in the overall standings, Lamparter is fifth with six competitions to go.

Slamik was delighted with Japanese athlete Yuna Kasai's victory and her first result in the top ten. "That's been the goal for a long time," said the 21-year-old. Her goal for the weekend: "Maintain my jumping form on the hill and ski a bit faster in the cross-country ski run than today."
