“Lover” lured woman out of six-figure sum

This case stands out in the flood of scams involving fake love on the internet: an Innsbruck woman (59) lost several hundred thousand euros in the course of several months of contact with a supposed admirer, the money is probably gone.

In the period between October 8 and December 23 of the previous year, the 59-year-old local woman was lured out of a cash sum in the mid six-figure euro range via a social network under false pretenses.

Love cleverly faked
The perpetrator (a woman is of course also conceivable) befriended the victim via the network service and cleverly pretended to be in love with the Tyrolean woman. After several messages, the victim was tricked into making several money transactions to an account because the alleged new lover had financial problems.

After increasingly large sums of money were demanded, the 59-year-old decided to report the scam to the police.
