Salzburg suffer 0:6 defeat in Sweden

Red Bull Salzburg have missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the Champions Hockey League. The Austrian ice hockey champions lost the quarter-final second leg against Färjestad BK in Karlstad, Sweden, on Tuesday evening by a clear 0:6 and were eliminated with a total score of 3:7 after the surprising 3:1 first leg success.

The preliminary decision was made in the middle third, when Salzburg conceded three goals within ten minutes.

Head coach Oliver David's Bullen team fought back in the first period and held on to a 0-0 draw, but in the second period the dams broke and the ten-time Swedish champions pulled away with goals from Lucas Forsell (22), Marcus Westfalt (26) and Axel Bergkvist (32).

In the final period, Alexander Ljungkrantz got the puck straight from the penalty box and gave Atte Tolvanen in goal no chance (49'). David Tomasek (50.) and Oskar Steen via an empty-net goal (57.) provided an encore in favor of the hosts.

Färjestad now against Prague
Salzburg thus missed out on the second CHL semi-final in the club's history. The club made the first in 2019. The David squad continue their campaign with an ICE home game against Olimpija Ljubljana on Friday. Färjestad will face Sparta Prague in the semi-finals, who crowned a brilliant comeback against the Växjö Lakers with a 6:4 overtime victory.
