“Gnocchi” fuels doubts about the authenticity of the wolf carcass

The non-profit animal welfare organization Pfotenhilfe Lochen casts doubt on the official version of the shooting of the Rauris wolf. The comparison picture is supposed to prove that the carcass cannot have weighed 36 kilos.

"If our really well-fed golden retriever Gnocchi weighs 38 kg, the completely emaciated little wolf in the picture from the province of Salzburg, whose waist I can easily grasp with two hands, cannot weigh 36 kg. This is obvious from our comparison picture, especially if you have to weigh dogs for veterinary treatment as often as we do," says Jürgen Stadler from the Pfotenhilfe association. "So it can only be a case of confusion between the carcasses being examined."

Findings to be published
As wolves are usually born in May, it could be an animal from the previous year with poor nutritional status. As the picture was available almost immediately after the ordinance was published, there is a suspicion that more than one wolf had already been illegally shot, i.e. poached, and therefore more than one was sent for examination.

However, the findings must first be published in order to be able to deal with these inconsistencies in the interests of transparency and public interest.
