Microsleep in the car: mother and children injured

Because she had briefly fallen asleep, a car driver left the road in the Carinthian municipality of St. Paul im Lavanttal on Tuesday night. The woman had her two children on board. 

The 28-year-old was driving her car on the St. Pauler Landesstraße from St. Andrä towards Lavamünd at around 0.55 a.m. when her eyes closed due to fatigue at Legerbuch.

"According to her own statements, she briefly fell asleep and drove off the road to the right. After around 200 meters, the driver crashed into the embankment of an adjacent stream," according to the police.

The woman from Lava and her two children, aged four and eight, who were in the car, were injured to an indeterminate degree. All three had to be taken to Wolfsberg Regional Hospital.
