Large-scale fire department operation at Arnoldstein railroad station: A railroad carriage went up in flames on Saturday evening. The Arnoldstein, Seltschach-Agoritschach and Pöckau-Lind fire departments were quickly on the scene. "The fire station is right next door, a massive fire could be seen and so we were able to assess the situation very well straight away," said the emergency services.
It was not until around 4 o'clock on Sunday morning that the fire was declared out. A technical defect in one of the locomotive's current collectors and subsequently in the overhead line had sparked the fire. Shortly afterwards, the tarpaulin of the wagon caught fire.
Dangerous goods nearby
The wagon was loaded with washing granulate. "Fortunately not with dangerous goods," the firefighters breathe a sigh of relief. "By intervening quickly, we were able to prevent the fire from spreading to two hazardous goods tanks."
The Thörl-Maglern, Siebenbrünn-Riegersdorf, Fürnitz and Gödersdorf fire departments were also deployed.
