Salzburg woman (83) hands over bail to fraudster
An 83-year-old woman was taken in by telephone fraudsters. The woman from Salzburg believed the strangers, who pretended that her sister had been involved in an accident, and handed over a gold bail in the five-digit euro range.
The 83-year-old woman was the victim of bail fraud yesterday, Friday. Salzburg had been contacted by telephone by a stranger. The man claimed that the woman's sister had caused an accident with an injured person. He said that she could only be released if she paid bail.
After a lengthy phone call, the woman was persuaded to hand over gold worth a mid-five-figure sum to an unknown man right outside her home.
Shortly afterwards, however, contact ceased. The woman realized that she had been taken in by fraudsters. She immediately filed a complaint with the police. The investigation is ongoing.
