Not an isolated case
Drama on Lake Attersee: Diver died shortly after rescue
The dive of a group of three ended tragically on Thursday at Lake Attersee in Upper Austria. One of the divers (59) got into trouble at the notorious Black Bridge. Other divers brought him to shore. The emergency services were quickly on the scene, but were ultimately unable to rescue the diver (59).
Shortly after 4 p.m., several rescue teams raced to the scene of the accident in Steinbach between Seefeld and Alexenau. Initially there was talk of several injured people. On site, it turned out that only one diver from Poland was seriously injured. Resuscitation measures were started immediately, but the man could no longer be saved.
When questioned by the police, his two colleagues stated that the deceased and another diver wanted to dive to a depth of 50 meters. However, the 59-year-old began to have problems and eventually lost consciousness. Another group of Polish divers brought the 59-year-old, who was floating motionless in the water, ashore and called the emergency services.
Many incidents
There have been several serious diving accidents at the site in recent years, including a number of fatalities. The reason: the spot is particularly spectacular, as it goes down 100 meters on a rock.
