Ex-partner stabbed with a screwdriver

Wild argument in the Innviertel region over finances. Two former business partners came to blows in a pizzeria. A Turkish man (37) stabbed his ex-colleague (34) several times with a slotted screwdriver. Three witnesses saved the younger man's life. The victim (34) had to undergo emergency surgery.

They were business partners and friends, but apparently did not part on good terms. The bone of contention: unfortunately, as so often, money.

In a pizzeria in Ried im Innkreis, the conflict, which had been smouldering for some time, escalated completely. A 37-year-old Turkish man pulled out a slotted screwdriver he had brought with him and stabbed his former partner - an Austrian with Turkish roots - several times at 10.10 am.

In intensive care
The 34-year-old was hit in the chest area and a stab wound also injured his lungs. Three witnesses are believed to have saved the victim's life as they intervened and were able to separate the two. The younger man had to undergo emergency surgery and has been in intensive care ever since. The suspected perpetrator was arrested.

Intentional grievous bodily harm
"The victim has not yet been questioned, but pre-trial detention has been requested for the suspect," says Alois Ebner from the public prosecutor's office in Ried. The 37-year-old is therefore only being investigated for intentional grievous bodily harm for the time being.
