The beauty of old age

In recent weeks, artist Catherine Ebser has asked "mature models" in the Salzkammergut region to stand in front of the camera. With a little styling and make-up, she coaxed out self-confidence and captured life's dreams and moments of the heart in photos. A best-of of this "Åhnlroas" can now be seen in Sisi Park in Bad Ischl.

The photographer Catherine Ebser, who lives in Vienna, returned to her home town of Bad Ischl for an unusual "Åhnlroas". "I have been specializing in portrait photography of older people for a long time," she says in the "Krone" talk.

Now she is looking for "mature models" in the Salzkammergut region: "I want to raise awareness of the fact that senior citizens are people who have achieved a lot and who have had interesting lives," she says as an important point. And she wants to make older people visible again, to bring them into the center of society. To this end, she not only brings her camera with her, but also fashionable items, even lipstick and make-up.

Many people no longer have anything special in their wardrobe, but make-up often gives them the impetus to have themselves styled properly and blossom in the process!

Photo shoot as a pivotal point
It's not just about the photos: "The seniors take their new self-esteem with them into their otherwise monotonous everyday lives." A lot can change, even if you already live in a home.

This was the case for Franz in Bad Aussee, who kisses his sweetheart in front of the target: "He's a hunter and now takes his rifle apart every day and cleans it. And he's now the oldies expert for the local shooting club."

Love also gets a boost. "I know couples who first met in a retirement home." And that's allowed, it should be. "The photos often encourage people not to let themselves go in old age and still dare to do something," says Ebser, who is presenting a best-of of the portraits taken in the Salzkammergut on aluminum panels in Sisi Park in Ischl.

She does (mobile) senior citizen photography on request: "It's exotic in Austria, but it's well received."
