Espionage for China? Three Germans arrested

Three German nationals have been arrested in Düsseldorf and Bad Homburg on suspicion of espionage. The homes and workplaces of the suspects were also searched.

The three Germans, Thomas R. and the married couple Herwig and Ina F., were arrested in Düsseldorf and Bad Homburg, the Federal Public Prosecutor General announced. Thomas R. is alleged to have procured information on new technologies for military use from China.

Working for a secret service?
According to the statement from the public prosecutor's office, the suspects are strongly suspected of having spied for a Chinese secret service since at least June 2022. They are also accused of violating the Foreign Trade and Payments Act.
