Nagelsmann has secret clause in new contract
Julian Nagelsmann has included a secret clause in his new contract with the DFB (until 2026).
According to Sky, sporting director Rudi Völler and Nagelsmann have agreed on a "failure clause" that applies if the German national team is eliminated at the group stage of the home European Championship.
DFB has learned from the past
Background: At the 2018 World Cup, Germany was eliminated prematurely in the preliminary round behind Japan and Spain. Before the major event, the contract of then national coach Jogi Löw was extended.
The association around President Bernd Neuendorf, Managing Director Andreas Rettig and Sports Director Rudi Völler has apparently learned from the past.
The DFB leadership has managed to establish continuity in a short space of time. Just eleven days ago, the association also extended Völler's contract until after the 2026 World Cup. The 64-year-old was instrumental in bringing Nagelsmann to the DFB last September.
