On Friday, a 26-year-old Austrian man was contacted by a person claiming to be an employee of PayPal. This person claimed that there had been an unusual debit on the 26-year-old's account. 

During the phone call, the 26-year-old opened his banking app to check this. The perpetrator apparently gained access to the victim's cell phone, as several unauthorized debits were made from the 26-year-old's account shortly afterwards.

The bank was able to stop some of these debits, but it was no longer possible to cancel two of them.

The resulting loss amounted to a four-figure sum.
