Crystal clear commitment to solar energy

Our eco-offensive gets a huge boost from a new survey!

Not a single electrical appliance is on standby in Peter Filzmaier's small Vienna city center office! On the contrary - only after some fiddling can the coffee machine be started during the "Krone" interview! "That's how it should be. I want to make my contribution to the energy transition," smiles the likeable opinion pollster of the nation.

Green light for electricity from domestic green sources
Perhaps the most thorough eco-survey to date is hot off the press. The renowned Institute for Strategic Analysis (ISA) surveyed a total of 1000 Burgenlanders and another 500 from outside the province about their opinions on energy. And the result is crystal clear and could not be clearer. This is because 53 percent consider it "very important" that electricity from renewable energy sources comes from Austria. "Energy supply and renewable energy are important to almost 90 percent of people in Austria. More than two thirds are also concerned about energy supply and, above all, about independence in Austria and in their own province," explains Filzmaier.

According to his careful fieldwork, photovoltaic systems are the most widely recognized. There is also a demand for them to be installed not only on houses but also on open spaces and public buildings in order to cover demand. More work needs to be done to convince people of this and, above all, more commitment is expected from the municipalities. 94 percent of the citizens in Burgenland contacted by Filzmaier's team emphasize that it is important to rely on "solar power plants" on roofs for the further expansion of renewables. Across Austria, the figure is still an impressive 89%. The figures for wind power are 85% and 77% respectively.

Independent of rising electricity prices and future-oriented
For Dr. Sharma - now also an internationally recognized eco-pioneer and visionary who is rethinking energy supply at all levels - the main reason for opting for PV is "independence from rising electricity prices, but also the future-oriented, environmentally friendly technology!" The reliability of the companies is also appreciated. The head of Burgenland Energie, based in Eisenstadt, also identifies the incentive for customers to use the electricity generated themselves with a complete package (PV, storage, heat pump, etc.). An important starting point: 60% of Burgenlanders (47% in total) consider it "very important" to save energy in their everyday lives.

Filzmaier adds: "When it comes to this environmental idea, switching off lights when leaving the room is mentioned. But priority is given to standby mode for appliances - there is much more to be done here. Incidentally, 30 percent of consumption can be saved in this sector." Sharma's summary after this intensive ISA eco-study: "We feel vindicated as Krone Sonne and feel a massive tailwind for our gentle eco-revolution - from Lake Neusiedl to Lake Constance."

3000 PV systems have been installed throughout Austria so far. The total output of all systems together is around 20,000 kWp. This has already saved around 5600 tons per year by 2024.
