Zwettl in volleyball fever: “Simply great!”

The volleyball euphoria recently took on new dimensions in the Waldviertel. Over 1300 fans flocked to the Zwettl Stadthalle for the two quarter-final matches against Ried over two days. On Thursday (7 p.m.), the "Northmen" will face Hartberg in the best-of-five semi-final series.

"We even had to set up additional stands, it was simply fantastic what happened there," said Waldviertel chairman Peter Kirchmayr, looking back with pride on the two quarter-final games in the Zwettl Stadthalle against Ried. "We had over 1,300 spectators in total." Who cheered at the end about reaching the AVL semi-finals. "We've achieved our minimum goal and now of course want to reach the final," he says, adding that he has high hopes for the best-of-five semi-final series against Hartberg. The Styrians are one of the big surprise teams of this year's AVL season, having knocked champions Tyrol out of the Cup.
"Try everything so that we don't have to turn down any children"

URW boss Werner Hahn has been warned ahead of the first clash in Styria on Thursday (7 p.m.): "A strong team. They do excellent work there." Also in the Waldviertel, where the work with young talent in particular is bearing fruit. The U20 boys recently celebrated the runner-up title. "We have an extreme rush in the youth ranks. We really try everything to ensure that we don't have to turn any children away. Organizationally, however, we are slowly reaching our limits."

Back to sporting matters: One man stole the show for the "Northmen" recently-namely the Ukrainian Yaroslav Horobets, who was signed as a replacement for the injured Tarabus and scored 21 (!) points in one game against Rieder. "A really cool guy, he was celebrated by the crowd and played a sensational game." The next gala performance could follow on Thursday...
