Andreas case: police officer must pay fine
After the guilty verdict, the defense lawyer of the accused police officer in the Andreas case lodged an appeal. This was partially upheld on Thursday. A conditional prison sentence was turned into a fine.
The sad fate of Andreas (15) was touching. In November 2021, the teenager crashed his moped on a country lane during a police chase and was fatally run over by a police bus.
In February 2022, the police officer who had been at the wheel at the time was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. The sentence was two months' probation. The accused's defense lawyer filed an appeal.
Should have expected a fall
This appeal was partially upheld on Thursday at Salzburg Regional Court. The police officer must pay a fine of 1,320 euros. The court's reasoning: the police officer should have expected the 15-year-old to fall. Ergo: unconscious negligence.
