Tragic operations
Two fire deaths within a few hours in Vienna
Two people have died in two apartment fires in Vienna within just a few hours: In Margareten, a woman and in Währing, a man, all help came too late.
As reported by the Vienna Fire Brigade, the emergency services were first alerted to a fire on the Maragaretengürtel in the Margareten district at around 5 pm. Flames were blazing in an apartment in the six-storey building and the stairwell was already thick with smoke.
The emergency services discovered the lifeless woman in the rear of the apartment on fire. Resuscitation measures were unsuccessful.
In the meantime, some of the residents were taken outside. Three residents were treated by the emergency services. The operation was brought to an end at around 7.30 pm.
Dense smoke billowing out of the window
A few hours later - at around 4 a.m. - the fire department was called out again to an apartment fire. Dense smoke was billowing out of the window of an apartment in Czatoryskigasse in Währing. In the course of extinguishing the fire, a lifeless person was also discovered in this apartment, but it was too late to help the man (52).
The cause of the fire is still unclear in both cases. The Vienna State Office of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
