Missing chalice turned up in parish office

It's back! Was it a small "miracle", divine providence or just an oversight? Following the "Krone" report about the Tassilo chalice replica that had disappeared from the parish of Sandl, parish administrator Raphael Golianek was able to give the all-clear.

"We moved everything from the church to the parish hall because of the renovation work. It must have happened in the process that the chalice disappeared," says parish administrator Raphael Golianek. On Thursday, the expensive imitation worth 4000 to 5000 euros turned up in the parish office in Sandl.

Possibly too well packaged
Whether a repentant sinner had delivered the valuable chalice or whether its disappearance was really due to the move can probably no longer be clarified. In any case, Sandl mayor Gerhard Neunteufel was quite right when he said to the "Krone" on Wednesday evening: "It cannot be completely ruled out that the chalice is still very or possibly too well packed in the course of the move from the church building site to the temporary parish hall."

Coveted booty
A look at the search page of the Federal Criminal Police Office shows that liturgical objects are apparently popular prey. Two more chalices, one made of brass and one silver-gilt, have been missing in Upper Austria since June 2022.
