Cheeky thieves slit “peepholes” in truck tarpaulins

A rather unusual operation awaited police officers on the A10 Tauernautobahn. On Tuesday night, thieves were apparently up to mischief in a parking lot.

The Eisentratten parking lot on the A10 Tauernautobahn in the municipality of Krems in Carinthia is very popular with truck drivers - vehicles are parked there and the drivers go berserk. Cheeky thieves probably took advantage of this: shortly before 2 a.m., the driver of an articulated lorry noticed that the tarpaulin on his vehicle had been slashed open. "Further investigations revealed that the tarpaulins on a total of four semi-trailers from Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria had been damaged," said the highway police.

Damage to property, but no loot taken
The perpetrators slit the tarpaulins and cut "peepholes" in them - the wing door of a fifth semi-trailer was open. All the drivers were still asleep at the time and most of them only noticed the incident when the police officers drew their attention to it. What is puzzling is that none of the vehicles had their loads stolen! This means that property damage remains and the police are investigating attempted theft.
