A woman from Graz has prevented a fraud attempt by unknown persons using the bail trick and provided investigators with information by informing the police at the same time.

Last Thursday, an elderly Styrian man had already lost a large sum of money to alleged police officers. The woman was sensitized by the media coverage according to the police. The State Office of Criminal Investigation warned of a continuing wave of calls from false officials.

"Your son had a trafficaccident and is in custody"
The 53-year-old woman was contacted by telephone on Friday afternoon by a so-called "Keiler" and told: "Your son had a traffic accident. He is now in custody. You have to pay money to buy his release". The woman reacted in an exemplary manner, as the police reported on Sunday. She engaged the "boar" in conversation and called the real police on her cell phone. Officers from the Andritz police station were thus able to gain information about the perpetrators, but in the end it remained an attempted fraud.

The public must be constantly made aware of this type of fraud.

The incident shows how important prevention work is, which also includes media coverage. "The population must be constantly made aware of this type of fraud," says a fraud investigator from the Styrian Criminal Police Office. The fake police officers are currently switching between two well-known methods, currently the scam involving a traffic accident. Then it's the burglary near the apartment again.
