S-Bahn trainsets are named after Vorarlberg regions, cities or municipalities, and there is also the "Canton of St. Gallen" and "Lindau" train.

The last of the 21 new "Siemens Desiro ML" train sets was put into operation in November 2023. This marked the end of the long chapter surrounding the ordering of the new trains, which had been ordered or reordered by the then Provincial Councillor Johannes Rauch. As a reminder, Rauch had opted for the Talent 3 trains from Bombardier back in 2018. After years of delay, they only made it into trial operation and failed. After a new tender, Siemens came into play and managed to deliver all 21 comfortable and modern S-Bahn trainsets after a slight delay.

21 S-Bahn trainsets

have recently been delivered to the state of Vorarlberg. The traction units of the "Siemens Desiro ML" series consist of four parts, are around 100 meters long and offer eight entrances.

"Train sponsors" were on board
On Wednesday, each of these trains was named after a Vorarlberg region, town or municipality - two sets bear the names "Canton of St. Gallen" and "Lindau" as a sign of their proximity to their neighbors. The train naming ceremony in front of the ÖBB technical workshop in Bludenz was attended by Daniel Zadra, State Councillor for Mobility, and ÖBB Passenger Transport Regional Manager Marcus Ender, as well as "train sponsors" such as Mayor Andrea Kaufmann (Dornbirn), Florian Kasseroler (Nenzing), Nico Flachsenberger (Eichenberg), Lukas Greussing (Möggers), Andreas Kresser (Hörbranz), Wolfgang Langes (Hohenweiler), Frank Matt (Lochau) and local councillor Alexander Schwaszta (Rankweil).

A sign of appreciation
"Our passengers are highly satisfied with the comfort and space offered by the new trains," summarized Daniel Zadra. At the same time, a lot of money is being invested in modernizing the railroad lines, stations and stops. "Public transport in Vorarlberg only works thanks to the good cooperation between the municipalities and the state. The naming of the trains is a small but important sign of appreciation and symbolizes the solidarity of the people with the railroad," praised the Provincial Councillor for Mobility.
