Displeasure at Salzburg
Bull grumbles: “We defend like children”
After the 1:1 draw against Rapid, league leaders Red Bull Salzburg are very displeased. In particular, midfield engine Mads Bidstrup and his team came in for harsh criticism. After all, the Bulls once again failed to hold on to a lead.
I was surprised by Salzburg's passivity and the fact that they gave us a lot of space," said Rapid coach Robert Klauß, analyzing the final phase of the top-of-the-table Bundesliga match between the Bulls and Rapid.
The home side had taken the lead in front of 15,064 spectators with a goal from Konate (87'), but then withdrew completely into their own half, giving the Hütteldorfer a new lease of life. A handball by Terzic in the penalty area allowed the visitors to make it 1:1 in the 96th minute through Grüll.
"It's just sh***e," grumbled midfielder Mads Bidstrup. "We lead 1:0 and defend like children." Rumms!
Like Soriano once did
Salzburg are experiencing the return of child soccer, which Bulls legend Jonatan Soriano once criticized in a legendary Instagram post. What particularly annoyed the 23-year-old was that it was not the first time this season that they failed to hold on to a lead. Bidstrup: "We need to discuss this and find a solution. That must not happen!"
The fact that Fernando had to leave the pitch early with an injury was in keeping with the past few days, which started with the cup defeat to Sturm. "It's been a bad week," head coach Gerhard Struber summed it up.
Commenting on his counterpart Klauß' analysis, the 47-year-old Kuchler said: "It was the case that we didn't put the necessary pressure on the front line. And then we conceded the whole game."
