Extensive damage
Cause of fire in the center of Schwaz has been found
A fire raged in a residential building in the center of Schwaz in the Tyrolean lowlands on Sunday morning. Several residents had to be rescued. According to the police, the cause of the fire has now been found.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning and caused a large-scale operation, as the house is located in the center of the district town of Schwaz. 130 firefighters with 25 vehicles were on site to extinguish the flames. Rescue services, police and other helpers were also alerted. Four adults with four children - one just one year old - were able to escape from the burning house. Neighbors were also evacuated.
Probably a technical defect in a pipe
The damage caused is enormous, but according to the police it is not yet possible to put an exact figure on it. However, the cause of the fire has probably been clarified: "It is almost certain that the fire was caused by a technical fault in the electrical wiring", the police said on Monday afternoon.
The fire started in the dining area on the top floor. The police have ruled out arson or negligence as the cause of the fire.
