The 17 suspects include twelve underage boys between the ages of 14 and 18 and one young adult aged 19. Two suspects are under the age of 14 and are therefore not criminally responsible and cannot be prosecuted. Two other teenagers have yet to be identified.

Only caresses exchanged at first
The accused and the victim had met through one of the suspects, with whom the then 12-year-old girl is said to have initially exchanged caresses. Through him, the girl came into contact with the other boys, who all knew each other from parks in Vienna-Favoriten. Subsequently, the assaults took place between February 2023 and June 2023 in parks, stairwells, toilet facilities and garages (see photos) in Favoriten - the place where the girl and most of the suspects lived.
Boys booked hotel rooms for abuse
On Friday, another shocking detail came to light: in one case, a hotel room was also rented and the girl was abused by several boys, according to the police. In April, the girl was also forced to tolerate sexual acts by a 16-year-old teenager from Syria, reported Florian Finda, deputy head of the LKA Süd, which is in charge of the investigation. Whether this was rape or another abuse offense "is up to the public prosecutor's office to make a legal assessment," said Finda.
Girls are receiving psychological support
On Thursday, the 13 suspects of criminal age known by name were brought in for questioning at the same time "to prevent any collusion", as Finda said. The suspects - all of whom were already known to the police - only partially confessed or denied the crimes. One boy is said not to have cooperated with the police - he was temporarily arrested for resisting arrest. The girl is being looked after by a victim protection facility and also psychologically.
