Animal-loving but drunk: driver crashes into garage

A pitch-black night, no moon to light up the streets and a heavy drunken stupor - not ideal conditions for reacting quickly to surprises. This is what happened to a 21-year-old from the St. Veit district on his way home on Monday night. He was driving along Guttaringer Straße towards Guttaring at around 2 a.m. when he suddenly saw something dart across the road.

"According to his own statements, the driver tried to avoid a cat that was crossing the road," the police report. "The car skidded and crashed into a garage right next to the road." Both the vehicle and the garage were damaged - the driver himself was uninjured. The officers carry out a breathalyzer test on him: heavy intoxication!

The young man has to surrender his driver's license on the spot, and a report to the district authority follows. At least the cat seems to have escaped unscathed - there was no sign of it at the scene of the accident ...
