Braking at dusk triggers pile-up

Poor visibility probably also played a part in a pile-up on the B94 federal highway near Unterglan. One driver braked because he wanted to turn off - not everyone behind him reacted in time.

A driver triggered a real chain reaction at around 4.25 p.m. on Thursday when he wanted to turn onto the Raunach municipal road on the B94 near Unterglan. When he braked, the cars directly behind him were still able to react in time, but those following later were not.

"The driver of a company truck veered into the oncoming lane and hit a vehicle in front of him. An oncoming car driver swerved onto the embankment and his vehicle tipped back onto the road after a few meters," reports the St. Martin/Feldkirchen volunteer fire department, which was alerted to the accident. "Our forces had to secure the scene of the accident and provide fire protection."

After the fire department had righted the overturned car, it was towed away. Numerous vehicles were damaged in the series of accidents, some severely, and one person had to be rescued. In addition to the St. Martin/Feldkirchen fire brigade, the police, the Red Cross and the St. Veit/Glan road maintenance department were also deployed.
