Bees & a g’mahde Wiesn in alpine summer

Start of the Krone competition trip: After introducing you to the Alpine summer pleasure trip that 5 x 2 readers of the "Salzburg Krone" can win, we now bring you closer to the start of the trip: the herb kingdom of the National Park community of Hollersbach in Oberpinzgau. Our host there is Andrea Rieder, the farmer from the Leitenhof farm. We walk with her through the Hollersbach herb garden, of which she is the "good soul".

Between the "herb sun", the "Celtic wheel" and the rustic farmer's garden, we listen to the herb expert's stories about medicinal and aromatic plants. Then it's on to the National Park workshop in the listed Klausnerhaus. Here we cook traditional dishes from Andrea's recipe box, such as "Muas" or "Rachnudln". Many ingredients come from the forest and meadows. One special creation is even called "A g'mahde Wiesn"!

Andrea appreciates simple, traditional dishes from the region: "We only remember many dishes from our grandparents. They often said: A little bit of this, a little bit of that. I've collected the recipes in a cookbook and added quantities so that they are not forgotten. Many of the old dishes also have an exciting or funny story that I like to tell while cooking."

Later, Andrea takes us to the bee nature trail on the sunny side of Hollersbach. There we not only enjoy the magnificent view of the three thousand meter peaks of the Hohe Tauern National Park. We also learn a lot about the importance of the little honey collectors for our environment. Because without pollinating bees, Hollersbach would not be a kingdom of herbs.
