"It wouldn't have happened if"
Deaths in attack: Zelenskyi blames the West
The Russian military has hit a densely populated area in the city of Chernihiv in another missile attack on civilian targets in Ukraine. The bloody result: at least 13 dead and more than 60 injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted with bitterness. He blames his Western allies for the deadly airstrike.
According to the authorities, three Russian missiles hit almost the center of the city. Civilian and social infrastructure objects were hit. Doctors and rescue teams are already in action, Mayor Olexander Lomako assured on television on Wednesday morning. The population was called upon to donate blood. The rescue work was still ongoing at midday.
Number of victims corrected upwards
Initially, there had been talk of ten fatalities and 20 injured. As feared, these figures were revised upwards.
Selensky expressed his condolences to the relatives of the dead on Telegram. The head of state attributed the scale of the attack to a lack of air defense resources.

"Need sufficient determination"
"This would not have happened if Ukraine had received sufficient air defense resources and if the world had been determined enough to confront Russian terror," Selensky wrote. "Determination is important. Support is important. Ukrainian determination is sufficient. What we need is sufficient determination from our partners and sufficient support that reflects this determination," he emphasized.
Chernihiv is located around 150 kilometers north of Kiev, not far from the border with Russia. When the Russian military invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the city was also attacked. However, the attackers did not succeed in taking it. However, Chernihiv was badly affected by intensive shelling and a blockade. Since the withdrawal of Russian troops from the area, the city has been the target of several Russian air attacks.
