Who would have thought it! After just a short time, the situation in Linz's Volksgarten seems to have completely eased - the Volkshilfe project has brought a solution. Now there is peace and quiet at the streetcar stop and the alcoholics and addicts have their own place.

Not long ago, only a few people - especially in the evening - strolled through the three-hectare area without feeling uneasy. The Volksgarten, which was actually intended to serve as an inner-city recreational oasis for the people of Linz, has only lived up to this description to a limited extent in recent years. The long benches behind the streetcar stop in particular have become a problem hotspot, with an increasing number of alcoholics and addicts hanging out there. But instead of strict bans or forced relocation, Volkshilfe OÖ has taken care of its clientele.

Addicts involved
For the first time, as usual in such cases, decisions were not simply made over the heads of the marginalized groups, but they were involved by social workers in the process, which should ultimately ensure a better quality of stay for all park visitors. The first measure has already borne fruit.

Well received
As reported, the long benches were removed almost a month ago and the seating south of the chess set was rearranged. An open area, as well as one in the shade under the trees. Because the addicts were also involved, they have accepted their new place, as was also shown yesterday at the "Krone" site inspection. In glorious weather, the Volksgarten proved to be a feel-good place for people with a wide range of needs.

Peace and quiet at the bus stop
Where the potential for conflict has always been greatest - behind the streetcar stop - there was no one around, and only a few Eastern European "emergency travelers" in the immediate vicinity. The alcoholics and addicts were sitting cheerfully in their area, right next to them there was a lot of hustle and bustle on the chessboard, and some children were romping around in the playground with their moms and dads.

Speaking of the playground: it will be redesigned from Tuesday and in future (early May) will also be tailored to the needs of children with disabilities.
