Princess Kate
Diana’s brother worried about conspiracy theories
Earl Charles Spencer has spoken in an interview with the BBC about how he sees Princess Kate now being persecuted in the same way as his sister Princess Diana used to be.
In his opinion, the press attention his sister received was much more "dangerous" than the attention the current Princess of Wales receives.
Concerned about the truth
However, in the interview with Laura Kuenssberg broadcast on Sunday, he also said that he was worried about "what happened to the truth" in light of the conspiracy theories about Catherine.
Since Princess Kate's serious operation in mid-January, speculation and rumors about her health and marriage have exploded on social media.
Newspapers even picked up on some of the rumors that were spread on X, Facebook and the like, making them true to a certain extent.
Sexually abused as a child
Charles Spencer has just published his book "A Very Private School", in which he recounts the shocking level of violence and sexual abuse he suffered as a young boy when he was sent to boarding school at the age of eight.
A female member of staff at Maidwell Hall boarding school took advantage of the fact that he and other boys were desperate for female attention and affection, Spencer said.
When he feared she would leave the school, he reacted with self-harming behavior.
The school was concerned. The authorities were called in, according to a statement. However, every aspect of school life had changed since the 1970s.
Spencer also spoke about the violence he and his sister suffered at home. As children, he and his sister Diana were punished in a "painful" way by a nanny, he told the BBC.
Princess Diana's brother is best remembered for his harsh criticism of the royal family at his sister's funeral service. Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997. She is buried in the grounds of the Spencers' mansion, Althorp House, in the county of Northamptonshire in central England.
