"I'm a nightmare"
What Kate’s uncle reveals in “Celebrity Big Brother”
Gary Goldsmith, Princess Kate's uncle, moved into the British "Celebrity Big Brother" house on Monday evening. He wants to polish up his bad boy image, say nice things about his niece, who will one day become Queen, and be himself. In a video, however, he admits that living with him is a "nightmare".
Princess Kate's uncle wants to improve his public image by taking part in the British TV show "Celebrity Big Brother". "We all want to be liked," said Goldsmith.
"She's just perfect"
Taking part in the show is a great opportunity to show his "real self": "the funny, caring and extreme 'me', not the villain I'm often portrayed as in the press," said the 58-year-old. He is the younger brother of Kate's mother Carole Middleton.
In a video published on Twitter, he introduces himself as the uncle of the future Queen of his country, Cathrine Middleton, the current Princess of Wales.
"She's just perfect," he enthuses, revealing: "The first time I met William, Catherine was cooking something and William said: 'Hi, do you want a cup of tea?' Just normal, really."
"Full of mischief and danger"
Then he says: "I often read that people think I'm a bit of a bad boy. It would be nice to set the record straight, but annoying people is probably my favorite hobby. Every part of me is full of mischief and danger. Living with me is an absolute nightmare. There's a reason I've had four wives.
Goldsmith is known as an entrepreneur, commentator and podcaster. In 2017, he had to pay a fine and fulfill certain conditions after admitting that he had attacked his wife while drunk, as the British news agency PA reported.
"Toddler on sugar"
Goldsmith compared his character to a "toddler on sugar". "As I'm fast approaching 60, I want to say 'yes' to most things that are put in front of me," he said. "I'm not easily scared and I love a challenge."
However, he said taking part in Celebrity Big Brother was so far out of his comfort zone that he was nervous. "I don't take instruction or control very well." For his stay, he packed a sense of humor, an "extra bag for patience" as well as earplugs.
And the whole of the UK is now waiting for him to take the piss out of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan. He can't really forgive them for insulting his beloved niece and will no doubt use the public platform to set the record straight and shoot a poisoned arrow or two in the direction of California.
This is not the first time a family member of the future royal couple has appeared on a TV show. In 2022, Mike Tindall competed in the British jungle camp - he is the husband of Zara Tindall. She in turn is the daughter of Princess Anne and therefore a cousin of heir to the throne Prince William.
