It's unbelievable how close joy and sorrow can be - US ski star Mikaela Shiffrin is on course for her 100th World Cup victory in the Killington giant slalom, and then suddenly she's lying in the snow after a serious fall! Particularly bitter: she was unable to ski down to the finish on her own and had to be transported away in the Akia - there were quick concerns that she might have been more seriously injured ...

The US Ski Association did not give the all-clear after a short time, but tried to calm Shiffrin's fans and all other skiing enthusiasts with a tweet.

"If it makes you feel any better, she asked for her split times!" This should probably mean that even the 29-year-old, who should probably know her body best, shouldn't necessarily expect the worst herself ...

"... I have a pretty bad abrasion!"
And indeed: "Hi guys, there's not really anything to worry about at the moment! I just can't move right now, I have a pretty bad abrasion on my left side," said Shiffrin in a social media statement just under two and a half hours after the fall - still in hospital.

Curiously, she even apologized for causing such a stir with her fall and scaring so many people - although she also expressed her gratitude for the sympathy for her fate. The initial examinations in hospital had not revealed anything serious, so nothing should stand in the way of her returning to the Ski World Cup soon ...
