Fire inferno: rescued works are exhibited

Following the devastating fire in Wolfsberg's Lebek Hall, there is now a very special exhibition in the town hall: salvaged works from the estate of Lavanttal artist Karl Schüßler are on display.

At the end of September, part of the estate of the well-known Lavanttal artist Karl Schüßler (2010) was destroyed by the fire in the Lebek Hall. The water used to extinguish the fire also flowed into the cellar where the artist's works were kept.

"The extent of the destruction cannot yet be fully grasped," says daughter Ruth Schüßler. Although the family was allowed to cover the works immediately after the fire, watercolors and woodwork were still damaged. Now 50 of the salvaged works are being exhibited in Wolfsberg Town Hall (art office and ballroom wing) under the title "Out of the fire".

"Emotional event"
Michael Schüßler: "One of the damaged works will also be among them." The whole family helped to set up this special exhibition. "It was a particularly emotional event." During the vernissage, which begins today, Thursday, at 7 p.m., a work by Schüßler will also be raffled off. "The proceeds from the raffle tickets will go to a family that needs help." The exhibition runs until the end of the year.
