State: “Mortuary inspection is a service that costs money”

Team Kärnten has recently been fighting alongside Villach resident Gordon Kelz against the coroner's fee in the Kabeg homes in Klagenfurt and Villach. Magistrates refer to a state law. The state reacts: "Abolition would create an irreverent situation for the deceased and an intolerable situation for relatives!"

As reported, the state parliament is currently dealing with the issue. Kelz was invited to the last committee as an expert and - supported by Team Kärnten - advocated "that the fee be abolished at least in the two hospitals with their own pathologies and that the municipal authorities stop collecting it." The latter responded: "The state should abolish the fee, not us!"

Unanimous wish of all parties
"Two years ago, the government increased the coroner's fee to ensure that doctors are available quickly and across the board for this important task. In the countryside as well as in the big cities!", reminds ÖVP MP Silvia Häusl-Benz, who points to the unanimous wish of all parties: "The fact that Gerhard Köfer is calling for the fee to be abolished again after the increase shows what political games the Team Carinthia leader is playing!"

"Abolition unthinkable!"
A current abolition is almost unthinkable for the health spokesperson: "This would affect all Carinthian municipalities. This would create a situation that is irreverent for the deceased and intolerable for relatives!" Added to this is the fact that this is a responsible service that must be remunerated.
